i was in the local parts store this weekend (more than once, yall know what i mean) and a guy in front of me was talking about how fast his vehicles are. it sounded like the usual bs (\"i had a chebby p/u it were so quick everybody thought it were on the noss\") you know what i am talking about. then this hill billy ( a term of affection, as i am on too) said he was having a L88 motor built, and it would be legal cause \" in indiana anything under 1750 hp is legal\". all the counter guys nodded, and said i heard that too. here is the kicker, he then said, \"it will only cost about $40k, and i think i\'ll find an old vega to put it in.\" $40k!! the guy was wearing a old flannel shirt over a pabst blue ribbon t shirt, and driving a 78 f150. i know, i am being judgemental, but come on, he couldn\'t even afford A COMB or a BATH. i had half a mind to tell him i\'d run what ever i had in the parking lot against what ever he had in the lot, for pinks, but i kept my mouth shut. good thing as i almost forgot i was dring my 4.3 truck. i still think i could have taken him. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

so the teacher called him on his bullshit and had him pull it on the dyno...grand total after 3 pulls...197 hp.

Well bratass i guess you may be right, but consider this. why would a guy spend 40k on a motor, and buy parts at a discount parts store. some real grungy guys are rich, but this guys story did not follow. besides i grew up in the counrty, and i can smell crap a mile away.

There was a guy at the local speed shop that built a 2.2. He was what you would call a farmer. I did not realize NASCAR engines were measured that way. It is a 1000+ HP engine. I have no idea what he paid to build it, but he did not look like someone with money.

thats funny because GM and sol-cal spped shops in california just tried to set a land speed recored in a small car?? with a 2.2 echo tec and it had like 750hp and went something like 248 or a little more? now you know they got hundreds of thousands of dollars!!! some people just like to talk trash.

No. The 2.2 is a V8 BB Chevy. It is some kind of class of engine. I saw the parts list for it. I\'ll need to ask what it was. He is putting it in a dragster.

Well, i don\'t think you should judge on appearance only. some of the sharpest guys i know look inbred. that is really not the intent here. what i am saying is a guy that spends 40 k on a motor does not buy his parts at a discount parts place. it\'s kinda like a guy i know this sunday said he looked at a 72 nova with a 442 in it, and a 74 camero with a stock 302. he was not bragging or lying like the guy at the parts store. he was just trying to \"talk cars\" i am sure you all know waht i am talking about
