This is for a ford so that why I put in the off topic section. 1997 explorer 4.0

A while ago I was doing a little trail riding. I won\'t go into details but I ended up tipping it over. It got left there on it\'s left side all night. It\'s been sitting for about 6 months. After I got it off the trails and back home my dad warned me not try and start it because there could could be oil in the cylinders or something. When I would go to start it all the oil would compress and snap the connector rods. Something like that. Anyway I disconected the plug wires from the plugs and turned over the engine and then it locked up. So then I took out the plugs and turned the engine over to blow out some off the oil. So I got it started but it runs like absolute crap. Also I noticed the oil gauge goes a little crazy. It\'ll either be on zero or low. The cat also gets cherry red when I run it long enough. So the engine is probably blowing oil through the exaust or what? I know I typed a lot but any help will be helpful. I need to get it back on the road. Taking it to be worked on by a shop it out of the question. I don\'t that kind of money. All the work will be done by me.

cut off the cat and test it. the oil that was in the system clogged it up.

If it sat on its side for six months, or even over night, you have oil everywhere. If you try to run it out, you will foul plugs for a long time and your converter will be burning off the oil. Depending on which valves were open, you could have oil in your intake and carb.

If you can, take the intake off and clean it out. Make sure your vacuum lines are clear as well.

You will want a second opinion on this.
