Finally got my block so I am well on my way for my build. However, im coming up with a list of what I need to buy for the build. What cam would you reccomend. I want an aggressive cam with a nasty rough idle. Let me know your opionions. Thanks.

Cam is gonna depend on what kinda heads and intake you are running....along with where you want your powerband at..What compression are you shooting for..Lots of variables to consider before a cam can be selected.

280 480 cam is nice...i had a 533-555 with 323 dr in my one time , but it was way to big for the motor..than i had a .580 soild in a 327 that was killer...it would walk all over that 350 i had...anyway..have fun

also you need to list what your mods are on the motor...and how much you want to spend...hydralic cams are cheap while rollers are a lot higher..

Sounds like this guy just want\'s a good req. for parts to just start looking at. If you want a good idle and power band Comp. makes good hyd. kit\'s called \"K kit\'s\" The last of your worries should be how it sounds honestly. You should be concerened with parts and how long they will last. The cam I ran in my 1st 350 was a 280H from comp. That made 425hp @6000rpm. With forged pistons and stock rods and crank. 9.5:1. I have the heads from that for sale also. I\'m trying to sell the hole engine but, I\'ll probley end up parting it out. Just list your budget and if you have any other parts already. Then we can all give you ideas on what you want to do. Another thing you have to concider is with a solid/roller set up you will alway\'s be checking valve lash.

i always like to set up with 9.5:1 compression, a dual plane 1500+ rpm intake, and no bigger than a 292 advertised duration cam. this is one of those can\'t go wrong combonations. then add at least a 2400 convertor and tall gears and let er rip. basically a buget minded power build.

but i am playing with fuel injection these days and my trusted combos are not too compatible with injection

All good suggestions. I havent any mods yet. Im just starting my build. All ive got is a block and a wholelotta ideas. the problem with having a wholelotta ideas is I dont know which ones will work and which ones will not. That is why I joined. Basically I plan on running a stock set of heads for now. Im will end up with a dual plane intake with a matched carb. As for the sound. Its not a priority, but Im building this truck for a toy and I want it to sound and look like I have it imagined. Isnt that what its all about. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

well if your going to build a stock engine with stock heads talk to comp cams and they will tell exactly what cam will work for you without being too small or too big. if you have the extra cash get your heads now. there are alot of good options just depends on cash flow and how fast you want to go. if you want a good set up that will give you 400+hp you can go to summit racing .com and look at the holley system maxII system. for 1500 you get the heads, cam to match, intake, timing chain, lifters, and all. basiclly everything you need minus the gaskets. if you build a stock 350 bored .030 over with all stock stuff. with this kit you will still see 400 hp. thats a garrentee from holley. they have done lots of testing with this kit. and it is designed for the budget street engine in mind. and there is no guessing. it has everything you need. good luck and i hope i helped some.

We need to know all the other parts that are going into the engine, and the trucks intended use. The camshaft is about the last thing you pick and it needs to match the engine combo. The vehicles intended use allows a little more fine tuning of exactly what to pick.

Sounds like you want a rough idle. That requires lots of duration and a tight LCA to make some overlap, but this isnt always benfitial on a street engine.

Then you have to choose if you want a hydraulic, solid, hydraulic roller, or solid roller cam. Count on a roller cam costing $1000 total and a flat tappet around $400-500 once you get the cam with matching springs, lifters, keepers, and retainers.

Shoot us some info on heads, compression, intake, carb, what size headers/exhaust system, street/strip or drag only?

Its going to be a street only truck. I dont really know what is going into the engine yet. What I do know is that im going with flat top pistons. Block will be bored .030 over. What im really looking for is what you guys are running for setups. Im not making a final decision, just looking for direction to look in. Budget is a big issue. Im lookong to get a near running motor for around 2 grand. Thats with machine work, bottom end kit, pulley kit, top end stuff (heads, cam, lifters, rods.....). Basically Im starting with a bare block. Thanks. This site is great!
