hey, i have a checkmate, well i think that that is the brand..... but it is a fiberglass cover that sits flush, it only has a black rubbermolding that runs around the perimiter. it is really nice and can be taken off by pulling on these tabs that release the 4 pins that hold it in, there are two that hold the cover near the cab, and it pivots on that one, then there are two twards the back where it latches. it is a really nice piece, and i would say its the best out there. i got mine for $90 used, and then had it painted to match my truck, my body guy did an amazing job on it, and it looks like a huge piece of glass! fiberglass is great if time is spent on it to prep! i will have pics sometime soon.... i have finals and stuff to do before i can go home again.

How much you looking to spend?

There are companies that make flush ones out of aluminum but they aren\'t cheap. Like $600 before paint

I run a design by tech-style. It is a soft cover that snaps on to the rail that clamps to the top of the bed without drilling holes.

Cost me $207 from Summit. I like it and have had it now for 3 years now.

Be careful with checkmate. I\'ve heard they leak really bad. Also, the checkmate covers are kinda textured, they\'re not totally smooth. There are a few other companies who make flush fiberglass lids. Try looking into snugtop and gaylord\'s.

anyone ever made thier own? i have seen some pretty good ones. they used plywood and vynl to cover them. i would think you could fiberglass the top for the smooth look. i dont know how much effort it would be though.

a friend of mine made one with plywood and vinyl, his mom did the sewing, put a nice bowtie in the center of it. Looked pretty bad ass.

i\'m in the process of making my own i ordered a sheet of 20 guage sheet metal that measures 6X10.. i\'m gunna ciut it down.. i have the frame made out of 1 inch angle iron and then i have tubing braces every foot they\'re only 1/2 inch... and its going to bolt on the inside of the frame rails and i\'ll be painting it body color with the same flames as i have on my hood... hopefully my digital camera is back from gettin fixed soon so i can get some pics up... the flames will actually be raised out of the metal i decided now... i cut out the flame patter on myhood in a 1/4 inch peice of aluminum and i\'ll be using panel bonding adheisevs to bond it to the tonno cover and do the body work properly and paint them silver like on my hood, it\'ll be a lot of work but it\'ll be sweet

mine will weigh about 120lb\'s all said and done... it\'s tough finding flat sheet aluminum and it\'s like 20 times the phttp://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/smileJap.gif.. this thing only cost me about 80 bucks canadian so far...and 120lb\'s is like a tenth of a second of your e/t but in reality i\'ll probably knock off about 2 tenths off my 60ft time... because of the extra weight where i need it and less drag at higher speeds means faster e/t\'s too.... ok so i got it doen... i ebnded up using panel bonding adhiesevs on it and making my flames raised out of the cover by 1/4 inch it looks awesome... but it\'s gotta get painted yet probably won\'t have any pioctures untill spring...

I used to work at topper king and ive installed the flush lids you can unlock them and they open like the ones that sit over the box of your truck. I have also done the roll-lok kind the roll up into a box in the front they dont look as cool but they are strong you can stand on them they both run about 500-800 painted or not. if not painted they come white. i hope this can help any
