How many of you are using a th350 in a daily driver s10? Im about to make a swap from the 700 to a th350 and was wondering how bad of a toll it will put on the ol gas tank. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

it really depends on how you drive it and how your motor runs. the th350 is a damn good tranny to use in the s10 pickup i heard that they are pretty much bullet proof.

you cant beat the economy of the 700r4. and its alot tougher then most people think. i run a 200-4r and i will not use a 3speed in anything but a race car!! now if you have 2.73 gears you will get decent fuel milage with the 3speed auto.

I don\'t drive mine often. It\'s a TH350 with 3.50 gears, soon to be 4.11s, but it gets 9 miles to the gallon. At the prices around here that\'s 20 cents a mile just for gas. An OD trans would be good. LOL

If you are planning on it being a daily driver, I would keep the 700. It will hold up and be alot easier on gas.

Swapping from a 700r4 to th350 makes absolutely no sense. More work and hastle for less in the end.
Thats like having AFR heads and swapping them for iron GM crap heads, so you can loose HP. PLus you have to spend money on parts and do the work.... It just doesnt make any sense

WELL, truckman, i have a th 350, and i would not have a 700R4. my personal opinion is they are crap. if you want an overdrive, get the 4L80e. just my opinion. and yes, i along with alot of others run those \"crap\" GM heads. BTW, when my truck was a daily driver, i got like 11 mpg, runnin from southern indiana to lima, oh. love the th350.

the 4l80e would be the ultimate. but way too expensive. i can get 2 of them for free but they need to be rebuilt and i wouldnt even know where to start to make them work without the ECM?

I have one in a full size van, 96, with one, and a 350. i am thinking about using the total package in my model A. they are the ultimate, and i am sure someone makes a \"stand alone\" module for them. dunno who.

they do. troy trepaneir from hot rods by troy used a 4l80e in a 62 biscaynne with a twin turbo motor putting down 1200hp at the wheels. they say they have had no probs with the tranny and it pulls like an f16! LOL

I ran a th350 in my truck too. And the 700r4 isnt my first choice because of the gear ratio difference between 1st and 2nd gear.
When talking about daily driving an OD is something that the benefits far outweigh the dis-advantages. The 700 is a good trans, as long ad you arent putting a lot of power to it without adding some upgraded parts.
All and all no matter how you look at it, it will be a downgrade to move from the 700r4 to the th350, in a lower power daily driver situation. Plus all the hastle of swapping.
The 4L80E will eat a ton of hp, and is a PIG. It is the a great choice for higher HP applications as long as your willing to fork over some conciderable cash for the trans and a way to wire it up, to either a stock computer or a stand alone unit.
I specifically didnt list the numbers I was going to on GM crap heads, so i wouldnt pick anyone out as having \"crap heads\" I personally ran #882s for a while, lol. Those werent performance heads at all but they still work just fine, there are just many better choices.

Mine is intended as a daily driver when completed now its a stock carbed 350 with 350 trans and 373 gears I have a 700 from a 4.3 tbi astro van that may find its way in there at engine rebuild time http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif.If it can handle a heavy astro an s10 with street tires should be easy but that is several steps and many $$$ from now http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gifworkassoff= http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Take a warm 350, add a th350 with 2500 converter through a narrowed 10 bolt 4.10 and it = 11 mpg.

Hell, I get 11 or 12 mpg with 3.42s with my TH350. Stall converter hurts it a little too, though.
