ok so i started takin all the pin striping off my truck today and all the emblems. Everything was going great and lookin smooth..till i hit one snag that pretty much pissed me off. I started takin the stripes off the driver door, got about a 1/4 of it done and damn it was hard getting it off. I realized that some dumbass clearcoated over most the pinstriping on the door. Now this just ticks me off for the fact that im just putting the truck together and wanting it to look its best for the Hot Rod Power Tour 2005. Right after that i was gonna take the truck completly apart and paint it the color i want it.
Now the thing is....should i just deal with it. Or knock the door down and put it in primer? The rest of the trucks pinstriping is off now.

i would try a little paint thinner and a rag and just try to carefully get the piinstripes off, without hurting too much of the clear, You can always shoot a little clear over that spot and sand it out just to get it looking decent

Try sanding the clear off the stripe with some 1000 grit wet paper. Then remove the stripe. Compound the area when you are done and it should be fine.

I was going to say the same as bowtietd. A guy down the road from me has a body shop. He is now using a sand paper that does not require water. It is like dry, wet sanding. I thnk it is from 3m.

SO Wheres the PIC?
I would agree about the sanding of the stripe. Gently.
As for the rest of the truck, The wet sanding should level that factory finish really good. Just becareful because the factory finish isn\'t all that thick. It just the clear that is thicker.
