I recently swapped out my old cluster (no tach.) with a brand new one that has a tach. Everything was easy with one exception. When ever I turn the key, but not turn the truck over the tach. needle will shoot up to 1,500rpm and hold, then when I turn the truck over the needle will still not move regardless of engine speed. If you turn off the truck the needle will fall back down to zero like it should. Everything moves freely and nothing else on the cluster has problems. I cant figure out for the life of me what is going on. I use to have a Sunpro II tach with my old cluster that worked perfectly and still does (Hooked it back up to test), but went this route because I thought it would look better once I got my 283 project finished. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif

you got no signal from the sound of it. the signal either needs to come off the negative side of the coil or off of the white wire that leads off the back of the distributor to the computer. second question...did you get the cluster out of an s10 with another 4 cyl? if its out of a v6 the tach will read 33% too high. 2000 rpm will show 3000 rpm.

Its from a 4 cylinder.. Could it be a bad wire from the distributorless ignition system? I had my old tach spliced off the OEM tach wire and it works.

When I changed my dash I had to change some of the wires on the dash plug around to make it all work. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
