I have a Turbo 400 that seems to have some problems. I was tuning the car the other day and when finished I did a few practice runs through all 3 gears. First, I have a B&M z-gate shifter, the tranny shifted itself out of 1 gear at 4000 rpm even though I never touched the shifter to move it to 2nd. Next, at WOT it\'s not shifting into 3rd gear. 2nd gears feels very strong (pulls hard) but when I shift it into 3rd it continues to rev. like it\'s still in second. Anyone know what the problem is?

Is it a rebuilt tranny or one from a bone yard? If it is from a bone yard, have it gone through by a tranny guy and rebuid whatever needs to be.

those seem to be things that happened to my 700r4 tranny before it kicked the bucket.

Got a shift kit in it? If it does, check out what the mfg. says about the kit\'s operation and limitations. Is the trans linkage adjusted OK?

I\'m hoping it\'s something as simple as the trans linkage!

if it revs like its in nutral then goes into third it means high gear clutch pack is burnt up

Or the vacuum line is off. Maybe just a bad modulator. Also a turbo 400 will shift to a higher gear by itself where depending on valvebody. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

I agree with HILROD also on the upshift. About the no 3rd gear, I think that it is due to high line pressure, which can be due to bad modolator or it can be due to stuck detent solanoid.
