I\'ve searched everywhere and haven\'t really found the info I\'m looking for. I\'m about to buy a 96 lt1 but I dont\' have the money for a t56, and I dont feel like doing all the work to get it to fit, so I\'m going to go with a NV3500 for the time being to get it on road, and then if that blows, I\'ll get a t56, but anyway my question. I would prefer to get the nv3500 out of a fullsize cause I read theyt are able to take the power better than the ones out of the 4.3. Anyway, will this require any driveshaft modification? Right now I have a 95 2.2 with 5 speed ext. cab. Will the tranny mate up with the driveshaft, or will there be problems? Also, would I need the computers out of the car the motor is coming out, or the computers out of the truck I\'m taking the transmission out of. Thanks in advance for any info.

A 4.3 S10 and full size pickup NV3500 have the same internals and bell housing. The only difference between the two is the tail housing and spline. If you use the S10 4.3 version it has the 27 spline output that would work with a S10 driveshaft. The full size truck would have the 32 spline output, which would require a different yoke. There is a strength difference in the yolk, but 27 spline yolks are good well into the 10\'s. That would be the same spline as all TH350\'s, 700R4\'s, and many Muncies and T10\'s. The TH400, full size truck manual transmissions, and some Muncies and T10\'s had the 32 spline. The S10 trans would be a bolt in using a S10 driveshaft, crossmember, hydraulics, etc. There is no benefit to the full size truck trans, so save yourself the effort.

as far as the trans and ecm? the tbi ECM from the truck wont run the lt1. you need the ECM from the donor car. get the harness too. as far as the ECM for the car working the trans???? also your speedo??? do some reasearch there is a member here that did an ls1 swap into a newer s10 and sells the book on ebay. theres not much difference in the operations of the 2 ECMS as far as speedos and trannys? he might be able to help. also give tpis a call they know there s**t on fuel injection and swaps they even sell ECMS and harnesses for it. maybe they can program an ECM for you and build a harness that will take care of everything???

The housings between the fullsize and S10 trannies are different.

The place where the clutch fork is mounted is slightly tilted more up in the fullsize. Might have a problem with it hitting the lower a arm mount on the frame.

The tranny mount is also different. The s10 is similar to a Th350 or 700R4. The fullsize has the mount on the very end of the tailshaft.

Go with the S-10 NV tranny. The full size version is not stronger. They\'re both \'rated\' to 300lb.ft. although in many cases (including mine) they\'re known to take a lot more. The S-10 version should bolt right in, however you may need to change a few things going from a 2.2. I\'m not sure how the newer body style measures up, but going from the 1st gen 2.0 I had to shorten my driveshaft a little. After the cost factor and everything I realized I should have just gone with the axle setback plates from JTR but it\'s too late for that. The crossmember might have to be modified a bit to mate with the NV mount, all I did was I made a little adapter plate and drilled mounting holes and placed it between the two. Last thing will be possible tunnel massaging, but she should go right in.

Might check out my article from my installation Here (http://s10v8.com/article.php?sid=64&mode=&order=0). It may not all apply to you but could give you an idea

Hope that helps

Oh and as far as the speedo goes.. since you have a 2nd gen your speedo is going to be electronic. The NV also uses an electronic 2 wire sender unit so it will be a snap to hook up. If you\'re going from the ECU then you can run it to ECU then to the speedo, or you may be able to run it directly from the sender unit to the speedo
