I am building an \'85 s-10 and don\'t know which tranny would be best. Not a daily driver, just something to try at the track and play around with on the weekends. which would more that likely give me the best times with the 3.73 gears that are in the truck. By the way it\'s going to be mated to a 383 if that helps any. A little info on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

Until expert help checks in, I\'ll offer this: I\'d say the TH350.

* The Powerglide isn\'t that stout of a unit unless it\'s \"built\" ($$), then they\'re mighty tough.

* with the PG, you\'re short one gear, so unless you\'ve got a BIG (small!) (4K+ stall) converter, the 1-2 shift might drop your RPMs well out of your power band.

The PG in reality does not have a \"first gear\" In other words, the low gear is not as low as a TH350. I\'d go with the TH350 ot TH400.

If you keep the weight at 3000 lbs or less a power glide will be faster if you optimize your setup (gears, stall, suspension). Like Scotty said, you will need a big stall and deep gears. If you are set on the 3:73 gears you have now then use the 350. Power glide can be built very strong. You can pick up a good used one with convertor at www.racingjunk.com for around $1100. If you go with the PG you might as well throw a tranny brake in it. If you will be logging street time go with the 350, if race in the only deal go PG. You can still drive PG on the street but you will be limited to the ocasional cruise night and such. No highway drivin with the PG and stall.

I appreciate all the comebacks. I already have a powerglide and a th350, both or them need rebuilding but i think i will go with the th350 and sell the powerglide. thanks for the info.
