I know it\'s a dumb question but I\'m wondering if rear steel or fiberglass roll pans are illegal... or atleast whats the deal in most states? I\'d really like to get one because after doing some body work I want my truck to have smoothe lines. They just seem to fit the body so much better than a bumper.
i know where you are, but others don\'t, fill out the From: or post where you\'re from, i think it varies from state to state, but i don\'t know what the exact laws are for roll pans. Anyone in Washington know what the law is there?

Doh! I forgot to take care of that. Thanks Mike. Yeah, anyways I was just curious. I thought I heard that roll pans were pretty much illegal throughout but I was hoping it was a myth... plus it\'s been a long time I might have been mistaken. You have any idea what the law is where you are Mike?
prob illegal here, all we have here are huge cattle bumpers on trucks, i think the bigger the better, hell the cars here have huge bumpers with trailer hitches on them.
i odn\'t know but i\'ll see if i can find out for you.

you know... come to think of it, didn\'t the Syclones and Typhoons come with them stock? If that\'s the case then they would have to be legal everywhere it seems, or Sy\'s and Ty\'s would be illegal in some states.

I\'ll try to do some searches as well but I\'m not sure where to start. The states don\'t seem to like to make thir laws too obvious.

S-10 Extremes can be purchased with a roll pan from the factory too. I think roll pans are legal, but don\'t take my word for it.

I got pulled over here in Illinios the night I bought my truck and it didn\'t have anything on the rear. The cop said I needed a bumper and I had the roll pan behind the seat and pulled it out to show him I had it, he said that was fine. So I would assume here they aren\'t illegal. I\'ll let ya know if I find anything else out.

roll pans are perfectly legal in all states as long as you have a lisence plate light. All late model s-10\'s can be bought with the roll pan as an option. most older mazdas came without bumpers but the light was factory on the panel under the tailgate and thats still legal. just make sure you put a light on it.

I live in pa and have my inspection licence. In pa roll pans are legal, and every where else that i know. Here you can put your licence plate anywhere you want angled twisted, and for a little bit i even had my on upside downs just to piss of the hellertown cops. they gave me a ticket and then i fought it at court and i had asked them to show me where it says that i couldn\'t do that and i had won.the only thing you need is lights for your plate, even if it is in the back window. we do have bumper laws here though, witch is bull a car has to be 8-16\" off the ground and a truck 16-32\" off the ground, these are taken from the bottom of the bumper. there are stock cars and trucks that are under and over these measurment so i do not know why they go by these. vette, dodge 3500, 2500. they do not apply to me though (pisss, got bags) o and guess what we have no emission requirements here. it\'s great. can do anything you want. as long as you vehical has a cat(dosen\'t have to work or have anything in it, as long as it\'s present). back to the roll pan you can buy a nissan and toyota\'s and isuzu, base models cheap with out any kind of rear bumper or roll pan at all here, i don\'t know if that\'s like that everywhere but you can here.

When i worked at the new car dealers in Calif. they would bring me a crate full of rear bumpers for pickups. I would spend all day installing rear bumpers on brand new pickups.
Seems there is no law that requires a rear bumper on a pickup from the factory.
A pickup is not a passenger car. It does not go by the same safety laws. Bumper, rollover, crash test ets.
So adding a roll pan is no problem.
You just need a licence plate and working licence plate light back there.

Having nothing at all it illegal. A roll pan should legal providing your plate is legal.
In my opinion a steel one will look better than a fiberglass one. But, on a truck, they are more prone to cracking at the welds cause of the truck bed flexing. I havent; had any problems yet with my blazer. Mines welded and smoothed.

i remember not to long ago that you could purchase a brand new truck with no rear bumper or roll pan, This is only legal on trucks because the gas tank is in front of thr rear wheels if it was in the back by the bumper like cars than a bumper would be mandatory.
