I have not started on my conversion yet, and I just saw my first ever S-10 with a small block over the weekend. The kid told me that to run a mechanical fan in a small block S-10 that you MUST use a short water pump. Is this true?

No. When someone tells you, that you MUST do a s-series v8 a certain way, that should tip you off.

I am running a long water pump, and I ditched my mechanical fan last summer.

i agree these are for the most part custom fabricated convertions the only MUST is it MUST run when your done. lots of guys mount there radiator in different spots forward or stock location this would determine if you could run a regular fan or not w/ either long or short water pump.these are easy swaps if you do your homework first theres plenty of us on the site willing to help good luck

the only thing keeping me from running a engine driven fan is my electric fan!

there are still people who think you can\'t do a V8 in a S10.

I too run a long pump and I have an engine driven fan. If you were to ask us here how they did our conversion we would all probably give any help you need.

Good luck and do your homework!

The reason I used a short pump was because I needed single groove pulleys and I didn\'t want to have to cut on the radiator support to get the radiator forward. In my case it just seemed to work better.

I\'m running a long water pump and my radiator isn\'t in the rad support, it\'s behind it (towards the motor) and I\'m running a belt driven fan. I just had to use a low profile flex-o-lite. Check my pics. It can most definately be done.
