I have a 700R4 transmission from an \'87 Firebird with a mechanical speedometer (cable) and I am putting it in an \'89 S10 with an electronic speedometer. How do I make them work with each other without going to mechanical gauges?

If you use an 87 or 88 cluster they had cables but look the same. That\'s what I did. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Some had sending units that used regualr drive gears, you can try to find ne of those. But, the signal will be different. Otherwise, get the correct tail and reluctor ring.

The autometer hall-effect sender is part number ATM-5291. It just threads on the transmission take-off.

I called a speed shop that carries the Hall-effect sender from Auto-meter and they said it only works with the Auto-meter speedometer. Is this correct or will it work with a stock S-10 electronic speedometer? Does anyone actually have this in their truck with the stock speedometer?

Abbot Enterprises. they should be able to make and thing for any speedo swap or tranny swap you do.

Looking at the Abbott Enterprises website, it would be cheaper to just take the transmission into a transmission shop and have them make the change for me and be done with it. That is probably what I\'ll do. But thanks for the info, it gave me another option that I didn\'t have before.
