Okay, Is anybody using or had any problems out of a 4l60e? My girlfriends 98 camaro is messing up. At first the check engine light came on. ran the code, trans slip. Was told by a good trans mechanic to have it flushed and sometimes it fixes the problem. Had it flushed and the light hasn\'t came back on again.
But the other day I started noticing something else going on. The lockup convertor was locking in and out, in and out.
We found out it could one of 3 things, seloinoid, seal at end of input shaft, or valve body. Well we tried the easiest first, soleinoid. didn\'t fix it.
My question is has anybody else had this problem out of these trans? We were told it wasn\'t the first time that it had happened.
Any off yall running one or have you ever broken one? How about does any off yall have a valve body for one?
Thanks guys. I guess we will try the seal next before dishing out the cash for another valve body.
If anybody else has any suggestions by all means please tell me.
Sorry guys I had to vent. The blame thing is driving me crazy!

i have a 4l60e in my full size that i have had since 3 miles on the clock. have had no problems out of it in 196,000 miles. i have been real hard on it too. but i flush it and then change the filter every 50,000. the 94 model is said to be the best one build and i am beginning to beleive it.
my fiance has a 99 blazer with the 4l60e and it has already been rebuild because of a cooling line o-ring that started leaking during a 700 mile trip. other than that no problems.

I talked to my trans guy today. He is going to drive it tomorrow. He also told me that It could be the converter or that the whole unit needs to go ahead and be rebuilt. I don\'t know maybe we can get it all straightened out before long. Thanks guys for all your help.

i just had mine rebuilt in my 94\' fullsize. mine was doing nearly the same thing as yours-long/hard shift from1-2, ok 2-3, and must of forgot it had a 4th gear. pulled it out and dropped it of,they checked it out and the convertor had come apart. put a new convertor, rebuilt trans, and updated some \"drum\" works fine, just need to get new lines now they are leaking

i had my trans guy drive it yesterday. He believes it ain\'t the trans. To him it feels like it is locking in and out too smoothly for it to be something in the tranny. Maybe egr valve he thinks. anyways I have to have her drop it off one day and he is going to hook it up and drive it to try to see what it is doing. Thanks for yalls help.

if you threw a light and it says tranny its the tranny. everything throws its own code. if its the egr the diognostic computer will tell you that. we had a problem like that in a 94 camaro. blew the pump into 10 trillion peices!! it could be a number of things. but all the electronic valves can be tested as well so that is a fast simple diagnosois! if it is still happening then maybe just spring for the rebuild and a new stock converter? and if it was the egr valve you would be running rich. which you would also see when hooked to the computer. good luck.

Well we found out today that it is probably the valve body. So I guess I will have to replace that. Maybe it will fix it. I hope. Im tired of fooling with it. They got burnt on that deal anyways.
Anybody know where to get a valve body from, besides the dealer?

Thats alright I really really appreciate your and everyone else\'s help. I looked all over the internet. Nobody has them except through the dealer. A guy my dad works with has good connections and he can get one for 315 plus 50 core. Not as much as the 500 quote we got first. I guess I will try to tear into it this weekend after I get off work.
You guys are more than welcome to cross your fingers and pray alittle for me! Ha. Ha. Man I really don\'t know what to do if this don\'t fix it. Maybe tear it out and put in a gold old turbo 350! J/K.

Don\'t think they would like it too good though. especially with the loss of overdrive. she would fuss about the gas mileage so I guess i would be better off to just fix it.

I have a 1994 2WD Blazer 4L60E with about 50,000 miles on it. I drove the vehicle and it shifts very smoothly. I have everything including the torque converter, converter cover, dipstick and trans lines. The trans lines are a little beat up may not be useful. I would sell them for 395.00 Firm and I live just outside of Saint Louis, Missouri. I can be reached at nordyneken@yahoo.com. Thank you

Well I ordered a shift correction kit from superior transmission products. It fixes the common code 1870. I also talked to their tech line and the guy mentioned that the torque converter locking in and out could be caused by a bad map sensor or tps. I am going to put the kit in tomorrow and cross my fingers.
You wouldn\'t believe all the answers people have given me about this damn transmission. My buddy at the dealership hasn\'t ever incountered the problem. The first thing a dealership will do is replace the valve body.
One guy told me that it was nothing but a miss in the motor. I came close to laughing at him.
Another guy also said that it was the speed sensor.
I don\'t think anybody knows the actual problem? I am going to try the kit and hope it works. If not then try the map and tps. O well.
Just venting again.

Sorry redneck.
I read your first post wrong!
Do you know what the original \"code\" that was set in your first post?

Well guys to update the pain in the arse that this thing has been, I think it is fixed. I ordered a kit from superior transmission products to fix the code 1870 problems. I installed it on tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. So far it has functioned properly.
Man I learned a lot about those trans in the last couple of days. I believe I could have the valve body off with my eyes shut. I can honestly say that I can have the pan off valve body out and reinstalled with fluid in it in 45 minutes.
Trust me on that one. I had to do it. Wednesday night as we had just set it down from jack stands we noticed the 3-4 accumulator piston in the pan that I had drained the fluid into!
Fixed that problem, drove it around at about 11 at night and the converter never would lock up.
Brought it home, thursday tore it back apart. Double checked everything, Which everything was right. And put it back together. Drove it and it worked fine.
So maybe (fingers crossed) everything is fine with it now.
