I have decided to rebuild the motor in my truck and get the body painted. I ordered the 350 street performance kit from Northern Auto Parts. It comes with a crane engergizer cam and a high volume oil pump. Do I even need a high volume pump? Do they require any additional block work? I heard that they can also drain the pan dry.

The cam I got is the 274 part # 100172. Do I have to change the distibutor drive gear? Some people say yes and some say that they never have.

I just don\'t want to have any problems from anything. I can always buy a stock oil pump instead, I reckon, if yall think that I will have problems or have to do extra work with the high vol pump. And I don\'t want to have to replace a distibutor gear because of wear either.

Thanks guys.

I used the same kit. The Melling oil pump I got with the kit was the high volume oil pump. But, luckily I noticed another relief spring in the box the pump came in. The pump actually was a high volume, which is what I wanted, but upon reading the paper with the pump it had a high pressure spring installed which was not what I wanted. I had to swap the spring that came in the pump for the normal pressure spring in the box.

Also my truck weighx 3600 lbs and has run over 100 mph in quarter. I have the same cam you are using, with 1.6 ratio full roller rockers. Putting 4:10 gears and 100 Hp NOS kit in it for this year. See what I can break. That cam has LSA of 106 deg. Not really a good choice for NOS use. 112 LSA is better for NOS.

you won\'t need to change your distributor gear unless you ae switching to a roller cam. Roller cams are ground from billet and are not compatible with the iron distributor gears. The high volume normal pressure pump is the one I prefer to run. I have never seen one suck a pan dry though I have heard the rumors the same as you. When I ran circle track I used the northern kits and the melling pumps and never had a problem with them.

Thanks guys. I checked the box with the oil pump. It doesn\'t have any other springs with it. I am going to try to get one that will lower the pressure. Again thanks
