how much HP are these trannys supposed to hold? is there another option besides the t5 as far as a manual. is there any kind of rebuild kit for it?

Someone told me a while back they are rated at 300 ft/lbs. I\'ve seen rebuild kits availible for them on ebay. As far as other transmissions go, if you have a 2wd you also have the option of using a T56 6 speed (much more expensive, but able to handle a bit more) Otherwise, you are going to have to look into aftermarket trannys. Richmond makes some good 5 and 6 speeds (those are also a bit expensive) and I know there are a few others out there.

nv\'s are like impossible to rebuild from what ive gathered. check car-part.com for a t56. richmond trannys are bulletproof but theyll empty your wallet and theres almost no such thing as overdrive with one. any of em ive ever seen were all real close ratio with the 5th or 6th gear bein 1:1 if they do have overdrive its only slightly. like .94:1 so your screwed as far as highway traveling is concerned.

They aren\'t IMPOSSIBLE, but it is a real pain in the ass because the bellhousing....unlike other manual trannys, the bellhousing does not seperate from the rest of the transmission. Instead, you can seperate it in the center. If you are interrested in a NV3500, probably your best bet is to get one that is rebuilt. There is a company out west that is always sellin them on ebay for around $800-$900 rebuilt, and they rebuild them to better than factory specs.
