I put another motor in my dads truck. put a new timing chain in the motor. lined up the marks when i installed it....got the motor running, BUT the vac advance is hitting the intake and the distibuter is against the firewall. and thats where it runs the best. i cant time it with a light at all, the mark on the balancer isnt anywhere to be seen.
Do i have the distributer off a tooth or 2?
Its there only ride so i gotta get it going.
Thanks

Sounds like the dist is off by a tooth or two.
If you don\'t want to r&R the dist again you could rotote the wires on the cap and twist the dist the same amount and it will bring the vac back to an adjustable point again. Just make sure you keep the firing order correct.
Thats just a good trick for those 2am emergency get it running fixes. Its best to pull the dist and clock it in right. \"Its the correct\" way to do it.

are you sure the balancer is right? if it runs ok and the mark cant be seen id assume the balancer was way off. if it was off by a couple teeth it would run like shit if it ran at all. take some white out and white out the mark on the balancer.
bring it up to tdc and look at the location of the rotor versus the #1 plug wire then while you have it off look for the mark on the balancer.
