Getting close to making the v8 conversion in my 85 S10, one thing I\'m considering and wondering if anyone else has done yet is...remove the pickup\'s gastank and replace with a S10 Blazer tank. (in place of rear spare tire) This might free up some space under the cab for dual mufflers etc and improve weight transfer for those short blasts. This is something I haven\'t seen any suggestions made about, but to me it would seem easier than mounting a fuel cell, and rewire a sending unit.

That was something I considered, and I have seen done. Find a donnor Blazer and take the tank and tank harness out of the frame.

The cap was run up through the bottom of the box.

I don\'t think its more simply than a fuel cell but done properly it will look cleaner, but thats just what I think.

That should be possible, you will just have to move the gas tank door. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I am in the process of building my S-10 and have already done the tank swap. It turned out real nice. I used a tank out of \'93 Blazer. I had the guy at the junk yard just cut the blazer frame for me and used the crossmembers from that. You have to use your original shock mounts out of your p/u and relocate them forward about 2-3 inches to clear the new fuel tank. The blazer crossmember has the shock mounts welded to it, but they sit to high and won\'t let your bed sit on the mounts (unless you do a body lift.) Once you relocate the shock mounts, you have to lower the fuel tank about 3 inches to allow room for clearance of the fuel pump and lines. After you lower your tank, then you run into the problem of filling the tank, it puts the filler neck in the middle of the frame rail. I haven\'t got past this part yet, I am still doing body work. But I am going to use a 90 degree hose and put the filler neck in the floor of the bed. I am also planning on putting a flip door in the middle of the bed to allow access to the fuel pump for easy replacement. Don\'t know if any of my pics turned out yet cause my kid got ahold of my camera! If the do, I will post them at a later date.

I have it done and love it. I used the blazer crosmembers and the regular shockmounts. I just reversed the shock mounts to the opposite sides. This way I only had to drill 1 extra hole then simply bolt them in. I used 1.5 inch spacers to lower the bottom tank straps and bent and redrilled the top ones to make up the difference. Then cut the crossmember in the bed about 1 inch the width of the tank and about half inch further in the middle where the sending unit is at for the vent tubes. Bed floor is still nice and strong this way. used original filler tube from up front with some cutting and welding to make the filler come out inside the bed. Up on the side not the floor. Just had to get about 14 inches of 2 inch feul filler line from NAPA. They charge $14.99 per foot for it. Other than that $30 for tank and crossmembers. Just have the salvage yard cut off frame in front of front crossmember and then you can use the frame rails for measurements. I think I did move mine back about half inch from where blazers are but can\'t remeber why anymore. You could also move them down 3 inches but I didn\'t want it sticking down any further than it had to. Plan to install a rollpan and don\'t want to see any more than I have to. If anyone would like pictures I can put it up on lift and get some good pics if needed. Also can answer questions at yamaha4455@yahoo.com

I am also thinking about using a blazer tank in the s15. Below is a site that uses a k5 blazer tank in a mid 60\'s chevy pick up.To the guys who have did the s-blazer tank to the s series truck, Is it as easy as the link below showing the older fullsize trucks? If its not, I guess i will go with a fuel cell mounted below the bed .Is i do go with a fuel cell, do i need to go with the metal or plastic one?
