open closed diff???

i don\'t know much about rear ends can someone teach me so i will understand what i have, and know where to go from here.

since your not driving the truck. just open the rear cover and take a look. if it has clutches and springs then its a posi. if its got a bunch of mechanical parts its a locker style posi. if it just has spider gears on both sides and thats it, well then its an open diff. or peg legger. you can jack up the rear and spin the tire and if the tire on the other side spins in the same direction then its a posi. but with the gov lock style posi then the other whell will still spin in the opposite direction as if were an open diff. because the gov lock senses torque and locks and realeases as it needs. so my opinion would be just open up the rear and take a look. or of course if the tag is still in the glove box the code for the rear is there. i dont remember what is posi or not but alot of these guys do. so when you get the code just ask.

i believe when i spin one wheel, the other one spins opposite. also what would be the easiest way to add a posi or whatever???

if you get the stuff i know someone that can do it for about $100. that is not a job that you want to do on your own if you have never done it. you can seriously damage something. oh and even if it spins opposite it could still be a gov lock in there beings you have a 91.
