View Full Version : gradual loss in oil pressure

I have been having a problem with oil pressure when I drive my truck for more than 15 minutes.
The oil pressure is 60 at cruise and around 30 at idle. then it warms up and I only have around 25-30 psi at cruise and as low as 5 psi at idle. I have read that it could be bearing clearances that are too wide.
Does anyone have experience or thoughts on this?
Thanks
Jess

What weight of oil are you running? My truck drops to about 15 at an idle with 10w40 and that doesn\'t bother me a bit. But it still peaks around 50. If you are already running a heavy oil I would say the bearings are on the loose side.

I am running 10w30. What exactly do the numbers mean on the oil weight?

to be honest i would only worry if you had no psi at all. it is normal for alot of engines to act this way. min 5psi at idle is the main recomendation. no me personally i like to see more but then again i would not worry about it too much. just keep an eye on it

My daily driver does the same thing after I run it for awhile. I swaped to straight 30w and it cleared it up
