Has anyone used the propane/oxygen welding system before? A guy has one for sale. I know most people use the acetylene/oxygen system, but I have not heard too much about the propane one. He wants $200 USD for the tanks and torches.

I think Propane would burn hotter and faster. I know that acetylene can burn fairly slow by it\'s self. But anyone who has ever messed with propane and fire knows how much \"fun\" you can have with it.

To tell you the truth the way to go is Plasma cutters if you don\'t mind spending the money.

thats all they use offshore now. propane is cheaper and it does about the same job. really not much of a difference.

That reminds me.

I have a video of what happens when you mix Acetylene and Oxygen into an unstable enviroment.

Go to where it says Acetylene and Oxygen. (http://www.geocities.com/smittie61984/Video_Page.html?1114482715453) Takes a second to load too.

The place I use to work had it. They had nine tourches assemblys hanging from the cieling. (one for each bay) It wasn\'t hooked to propane though I believe it was hooked to the natural gas that came in off the street. They also had an o2 generater.

It cut no differant than the acetilene, at least I didn\'t notice any differance.

Space.

I just use a normal oxy/acet. set of torches with propane tank and oxygen.I bought a special propane tip for cutting($14 Can).I find you have to keep adjusting the propane when welding, but cutting works well.I should also mention I have single stage regulators and this may be some of the problem.

I played with it a bit tonight. I like how clean it burns and not have the soot. The oxygen regulator sounds like it is leaking a bit. Can they be rebuilt?

Yes, I inquired at a local dealer, and they said they could send regulators away and have them looked at by a certified person....at a cost of $ 70.00 no matter what is wrong with them.Thought that was a bit much so I took mine apart myself, cleaned it, and presto, worked fine after that. They are very simple inside, but safety comes first I guess.

My uncle scraps cars for a living and that is all he uses to cut up iron. He says its alot cheaper and does the same job. I have used both setups and they both work equally well.
