My dad just bought a \'96 S10 with a 350 which has a spun bearing. He bought a 355 to replace. Ive heard that with the nbs the computer controls all the gauges. Is this true? If so, does that mean that we\'ll have to fab up a new instrument panel? Second, has anyone removed the entire abs system? Just thought Id remove all the things that no longer work/or need. Thanks!

yes you will need to use aftermarket gauges. speedo, tach. but the fuel level, water temp, and oil preassure work just as the older cars. they are electric but not run by the ECM. but if you have to do the speedo and tach you might as well go all out. as far as the ABS?? just leave it. if its just for the street and not an all out dragster i wouldnt think it is worth all the extra money? jmo

I got rid of the ABS on my \'99 S-10 just by pulling the fuse. I felt the truck was actually dangerous with the ABS. It stops MUCH BETTER WITHOUT THE ABS. The only side affect is that you will also lose cruise control (if you have it). If you wanted, you could remove all the abs sensors and wiring, but I really don\'t think it is worth the time and effort.
