Umm, I think im gonna scrap the 472 idea... for right now at least, dont have the time, however I may have the funds for a zz4 crate motor. I\'m told this is an excellent engine, but in case I dont have that much cash( they sell for about $3500) I may go with the GM goodwrench 350 H.O. , it\'s get almost as much power as the ZZ4, and almost 1500 bucks cheaper, but what about quality, are they built as good as the ZZ4? is the ZZ4 worth the extra cash? I\'m doing it right this time BTW, setting the motor back an inch or so, using flex fan AND electrics, oh yeah, no more 700r4 BS, goin with a 350/400 or stickshift. I only dread what i\'ll have to drive until I get my s10 goin again, eww four banger!

You could find you a good 4-bolt block and either build your own or, have it built for alot less. I could get you a really nice set up if you tell me what you are looking for.i.e, Daily driver/streetable powerplant. Or just plain drive around/show.

If the 355 hp is enough for you, then yes. The ZZ4 is an excelent motor. I though mine would be enough, but its not. Im\' doing the top end this winter with AFR and Comp components. If you have anyone, or got the skills, you could always get the ZZ short block. Has the bottom end build for you, you slap on heads, cam, intake, and go.(less ignition, exhuast, etc) You could spend that extra 1500 on head and cam choice, and have over 400 hp for about the same ammount of money.

i guess if you have all the money up front than a crate motor would be nice...but most people on here don\'t have 3000-5000 dollars in there pocket ...and i don\'t know about them but i really enjoy telling people that hey i built that my self and it makes more power and costed less than a crate motor http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Thats exactly what i say. But you also have to remember that if your motor leaks, or blows up, or does\'nt make as much power as you thought, guess who\'s to blame then.LOL

God, how I would love to build an engine, and I will someday, but as of right now I have no garage, no time, and no patience, when I turn 18 I get some money from my dad\'s social security. I was hoping i could get a loan \'till then, dont get me wrong im not a \"rich kid\" im probably the brokest person on the site, the other thing is that I think a crate motor comes with a warranty, that\'d be nice. It\'s also nice to know how much power your motor cranks out. It seems that people speak highly of the ZZ4, I may end up with one in my truck, if things go my way for a change. BTW personally i\'d rather blame GM it\'s easier.

hey read my list of mods on this site ...it\'s on the whats in your engine forum and you will see that i have a lots less in my whole truck than what a crate motor cost...and i have no problem saying that my motor that i built has close to 450-500 horse power and it\'s been in the truck for 2 years now and i run it at the tulsa drag strip every saturday night and drive it home ...the only problem that i have is trying to keep gas in it ha ha ha...tunnel ram+2 600 holleys=lots of gas...it would probaly run faster with a single plane ..but man the tunnel ram looks cool on a s10 truck http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Where are you in Florida? I know one of the best engine builders in Pinellas County. Private message me if you want the info.

crates not a bad choice if dont have the room to build yourself or tools like me, i chose the crate. this is my 2nd crate motor the first goodwrench crate was a stock 250hp motor for a 86 sub. that motor got my s10 in the 14s. that was not bad for a 1600.00 crate i only payed 600 for it a deal.if i wanted to could of change cam the heads rockers and easy 50hp more. some one made me hell of a deal for that motor made profit so sold and now i have a fastfurn 385hp crate i could have built for cheaper myself but like i said no room nor proper tools nor time.a plus is it has warranty. if you go crate be willing to throw down 4 gs.so just think about it if you have the room build yourself you can save money.

crate motors are nice they do all the hard work and stand behind it i am a tech at a gm dealership money wise doing it your self can cost just as much as a crate for the same thing and no warranty i am building my own engine for my old s10 but if it was up to me i\'d get a crate engine from GM not a jasper or discount parts store one just to many bad stories about them

i am a lil late for this post but heres my .02 cents worth...crate motors have a few gooood advantages one being a good warranty two it is hard to build it for less when you consider that everything inside is NEW,so if you build it alone using NEW parts that same crate motor will cost about $4000.from the dealergive or take, still NO WARRANTY i hate those words.....
