View Full Version : Help wife\'s Brakes
Brake were fine but pad on all disk need changing. 98 s10 blazer, disk all 4, anti-lock. Question I change out the pads no problem, now I get in the truck and pump up the brakes. pump up solid. turn on the truck, puddle goes to the floor! brakes stop but puddle is very close, and you push hard and it hits the floor. I did not open the system, I did push the desk cyl in enought to cause fluid to back out of the master cyl. I do not see any leaks. No code or brake light on. any Ideas!

Have you driven the truck yet? the first time or 2 you use the brakes the pedal will go to the floor. Drive it down the street and post back and tell what happened.

man im sorry i dont know whats wrong. Are you sure there are no leaks? Thats the only thing i can think of. Maybe when you pushed the piston back in the caliper, it got cocked a lil bit and started a leak, thats happened to me b4.

Check the slides. IF any of the slides were stuck it will cause a low pedal.
You may have to do a line lock test to find the problem.
YOu will have to pinch off all 3 brake hoses ath the same time. (Don\'t drive the truck though because this renders the brakes inopertive.) Put Hose locks on each of the hoses. If you don\'t have hose locks baby vise grips will work. (DON\"T SQUES HARD TOUGH! Or damage will be done to the hoses. Just enough to pinch them off.)
Then climb in truck and step on the pedal. IT should be rock hard with very little to no movement. Next remove the rear clamp, and repush the pedal. The pedal should drop @ inch further than with all the locks on. reinstall the rear clamp then do the same for both fronts. If you find one that has twice as much drop, you found the wheel with the problem.
Remove that caliper, clean and lube the slides. check it for leaks and bleed that wheel alittle bit.
After that recheck to make sure its better.
Before you drive the truck MAKE SURE that all the clamps are removed.
Also when road test in any vehicle for a brake job, the proper way to do ut is to slow 2 or 3 times below 15mph then goto 30 and slow 2 or three times. drive for a little more and slow from 50 to 30. Don\'t make a complete stop if you can help it. In total drive @ 5miles letting the brkes cool a bit between brake aplications.By doing it this way you will heat the pads evenly and you won\'t over heat them. If they overheat during breakin they will most likley squel often once there boken in. This process is important because it helps the lining material cure.
Also I should have asked what type of linings you had purchased. Cheap brakes (asbestos / non-metalic) won\'t fel good no matter how good the workmanship is.
Hope this info helps. Tell us how it works out.
Space.
I will check them out, I aready cleaned the guides, and put little greese on them. But they are very worn, the truck has 150.000 miles on the calibers and master, and guides. I\'ve only change the pads. thanks once again!
did you try bleeding them?
Yes I did that today even thought I never opened the system, just change the pads. I going to change the all the calipers, the have alot of miles on them anyway. I do not think autozone will have the guide pins?
they might, worth a try they\'ll surprise you sometimes.

Sometimes you have to bleed them ALOT..not just once or twice, and while your at it, might as well bleed the back brakes. All it takes is a little air bubble, it will screw up everything.Been there, done that.Best of luck. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

A buddy of mine did a strut on his car and afterward had similar problems. spent over a week messing with brakes. finally took it to the dealer and they bleed the abs sytem with a diagnostic tool and fixed it. he wished he would of gave up about 30 hours earlier
Could that be my problem? I have no codes. That does make me wonder now?
I did find one rear caliper that was binding. but I\'m fixing the axle seals, one was leaking. I\'m replacing both rear calipers and rotors. See what happens.
