I think I bent a pushrod last year while doing a 1/4 run, and believe that this is why my truck is bogging under any acceleration at any rpm like i talked about 6 months ago.

My question is, i have to pull the rockers off to get the push rods out. But how do i put them back? Do i finger tighten them then do another 1/4 turn with a ratchet? Please let me know. They are plain stamped rockers.

Hydraulic lifters, right? yeah, that\'s about it. The key is to make sure the lifter has absolutely no lift. Usually TDC for that cylinder on compression stroke is OK. Just tighten them slowly until there is no clearance, then another quarter turn. Some guys go as much as a full turn, a full turn is usually for a totally stock engine.

......... Lots of guys like to spin the pushrod between fingers, when there is tension, then another quarter turn. I never understood why you\'d try to have someone do that when they haven\'t done it before, not knowing what you\'re trying to feel for. And, if the engine hasn\'t been run for a while, and a lifter has temporarily collapsed, you can get a nasty valve-hung-open adjustment for your effort. I just think it\'s much easier to know when the clearance is gone from the rocker.

............. BTW, I doubt if that would cause a bog. The product of a bent rod would be an instant loose adjustment, plus the chance of the rocker and pushrod disengaging, making for a dead cylinder.

I usually adjust my rockers after the motor is fully warmed up...I back up the adjusting nut until i hear a slight clatter, then tighten a half turn http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Yes, hot & running like Kleenkars said is the best, and most foolproof method of adjusting hydr. lifters. But the mess..... the smoke..... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

If you adjust your rockers like that, but back it off 1/4 turn, it will be a little noisy when it\'s cold, but you will stretch your powerband another 800-1000RPM. I HIGHLY recommend guideplates when you do this. Check it out....... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

buy a plain set of stamped steel valve covers and dut the tops out for valve adjustment and the mess is greatly reduced.
