when i first bought my blazer with the 2.8/700r4 at around 45-50 the blazer would shimmy. if i stepped on the gas or let off the shimmy would stop. now i do have bad brake for sure REAL BAD. now with the v8 lowerd springs wider rims and tires new shocks quick ratio steering box and so on i still have the shimmy. now i have never let brakes get that bad so i never really experianced this? could that shimmy be caused by the REAL BAD front and bake brakes? thanks

check your front end, balljoints tierods an all. Does it shimmy ONLY when you put on the brakes, if so your rotors are warped..your brake pedal will pulse or move up n down sometimes with warped rotors and sometimes if its bad enuf the whole vehicle will.

Do you know how to check for bad tierods and ball joints? Jack the front of the truck up to get the tires about 2 inches off the ground, unlock your steering hold the tire at 9 and 3 like on a clock and move it back an forth, if it moves as in you feel PLAY in it you need tierods, have someone look to see which tierod as you do it....for ball joints take a big prybar and put it under the tire and pull up on it if you feel PLAY have someone look and see if its the upper or lower balljoint. ALSO when your moving it back n forth to check tierods look at the pitman arm and see if its got any play in it also.

Tires balanced correctly?

Shocks good? Push down on the front or rear bumper and if it bounces more than 2-3 times you need shocks, but i really dont think thats the problem. Check it out and see what happens

it shimmies when i a driving? only at 45-55 under or over it doesnt do it. pitman arm is brand new and tight. shocks are brand new eldebrock IAS. i will check the tie rods and ball joints. yes the tires are balanced correctly. but it did this before all the modifications and still after? thats why i kind of ruled out shocks, tires, and stuff like that.

ujoints, driveshaft, maybe even tailshaft. vibrations are tough sometimes. Before wasting a ton of money it might be a wise move to take it to a gm dealership and ask them to put \"chassis ears\" or the \"EVA\" on it. Probably charge ya 75 bucks or so but it pin points vibrations based on frequency and where in the chassis its located. just a suggestion.

Thanks

new shaft and new rea end parts. as far as the dealer that wont happen around here. if its not stock they refuse to touch it. no matter how much your willing to spend. i still have the front cap off so i will check out the ball joints and tie rods tomorrow.??? i am really starting to hate this blazer HAHAHA

i would think it is in the front end( idler-arm, tie-rods, ball-joints). correct me if i\'m wrong, but if it was the shaft, wouldn\'t you feel the vibration thoughout more speeds? duno

i never bothered to check the axels when they were out?? but would that cause it to shimmy only at 45-55? i will be putting new brakes on as soon as i get it on the road so i will change the wheel bearings just to be safe. all the bearings in the rear are brand new. ALL of them got changed during the gear and carrier swap.

how is your pinion angle?

ZR1BLAZER

need to check that for sure but i think its fine. but when the whole thing was factory with the 2.8 it did this as well. thats why i was thinking brakes. thats about the only big part i didnt change.

I read some information somewhere about pinion angles and vibration. The vibration changes with RPM and +/- torque.

that is alot of great info thanks. but i still think this is in the suspension somewhere. same symptoms with the stock motor and v8. and it really feels like suspension?? hard to explain but i doesnt feel like a motor shake???

Try running along side it and see what is shaking. Or better yet, have someone pull you on a dolly and watch. Look out for pot holes. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

tire + alignment mechanic for 7 years, the description sounds like a wheel area vibe. 45 -55 and goes away. above 60 mph tires dont matter if there balanced there going to fast to matter. a driveshaft would shake so bad , it would start more like 30 and you could actually hear it roaring as you go faster.

i have to disagree with the roaring. granted, you have a shitload more experience than i do at this, but in my case it was totally quiet. i bowed my driveshaft out real good. i ran it on a lift and you could damn near jump rope with the thing. it shook like hell but never once made a noise. see if you can run it on a lift somewhere. then while its runnin see if its still got a shimmy. itll be a good place to check the ball joints and all too.

just wanted to make a point...it may not make noise

well drive shaft aint bent. i can see the stock shaft maybe being bent some how but then get a brand new shaft for the v8 swap and be bent out of the box? i just finished lowering the fron 2 more inches. the tie rods are straight (no bends or gashes) all the bushings that are still original still look real good. no cracks or splits?? i dont know. thanks for all the ideas guys. when i get it on the road again i am going to do a complete front and rear brake job so i will see if that does it. if not im sure i will ask for advice again.

OH and just to add. the rims and tires that were on there when i bought it were 15\"x8\" front and rear. dont really know if they were balanced right?? but when i got these ZR1 wheels all 4 were mounted and balanced on brand new top notch equipment at the local goodyear.( store is only 1-2 years old) i watched them do it so i know that is right. maybe 4 wheel alighinment??

your truck is a 2wd so a 4 wheel alighnment doesnt exist for it, only for cars that are front wheel drive.

If i were you id pick thru that truck and hope you can find the problem, its there thats obvious, youll find it one way or another.

the roaring comes from your dash, doors windows and what not rattling , and baybe your teeth. mine came from the perches snapping off and the hoghead pointing bigtime up. could not drive more than 40 without my hand going numb on the shifter.
