new member with a new project
hello all.
I just decided to build my 96 jimmy. I have a 4.8 out of an 07 silverado that I will be installing into the jimmy. Before I get flammed I will say that the only reason I am using the 4.8 is because it was CHEAP. My friend has a steel company and one of the workers wrecked this truck and the insurance company wouldn't cover it so they got stuck with it. I got the engine and all the accessories. It only has 16,000 miles on it. I am capable of doing the swap as I have all the metal fabrication tools I will ever need and I have built just about any car you can think of. I am a master tech for Lexus and will be doing all of the wiring myself as well. It looks like the oil pan will clear if I notch about 1.5 inch off of the crossmember and the compressor will fit if I notch the rt frame rail. I have a mount kit and a set of conversion headers that a friend of mine purchased and then wrecked his blazer. I will be doing the swap in the next couple of weeks so excuse me if I post some questions that have allready been answered.
The only thing I am unsure of at this time is the ABS and the drive by wire throttle. I considered buying an ls1 intake and using a throttle cable but the 2007 engine uses what looks to be an 80mm throttle body. I am just wondering if anyone has converted an s10 to drive by wire and if so how they did it. It also looks to me from all of the wiring schematics that the 96 and 97 s trucks use the engine ecm to controll the ABS and all the other trucks use a separate ABS module. I would like to know how some people get around this. Has anyone used the abs module and actuator assy from a later model s truck in a 96 or 97 truck?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

On the drive by wire system, unless you want to change the crank reluctor ring, the ecm, the intake, and throttle body you will be forced to install a drive by wire pedal which you should be able to find from gm performance parts. As for the ABS, you have a couple of options you can remove the entire ABS and the blazer's ecm, all of the electronic gauges and go with manual gauges, or you can keep both ecm's use the '07 ecm to operate the motor, transmission and operate the gauges, use the blazer's ecm to operate the ABS; or it would be posssible to switch everything to obdII but there would be a lot of extra wiring and converting of electrical sub systems.

Welcome abroad! With using the truck block, The ls1 intake will not clear the front drive system. I found that out the hard way! Im doing 5.3 swap, in my '88 blaz. Im doing with the fuelie too. I reusing the stock pan as well. Notching the crossmember and frame is needed. Think Im going to have Currentperformance.com help me with the wiring. Good luck with your build!
