that dart shp short block like scotty mentioned is defanitly worth the money, except I dont like the hyper pistons. If I were you I wouldn't put money into a gm 400 block, its like polishing a turd. I have just over 2 grand of machine work on my bare block, strengthin the deck, clearence the 6" rods, square it up and hone it out. it aint worth it but thats just my 2 cents.

I didn't know you had a trusted source for the block(s). That could work out well.

ok so heres a new update...sent the block to the machine shop... NO GOOD!!! block is cracked at the head bolt area and it looks old also, thats what im told. so the machine shop found me an untouched 400 block 2 bolt main. figure i should have started from scratch like this 1st and not used someone elses 30 over block.
so with the block, 1 new piston, all new rings and bearings, line hone, and bore 30 over, anmd all that fun stuff of checking the block they want $1200. im going for it!!!! ill be back in action by the spring without a doubt. just have to get a new roller cam, and change my valve springs for a roller cam. and assemble.

thanks man, im really hoping all goes well with this, every1 that i know is so amazed that this truck did what it did, with a possible cracked block and a worn cam. with everything running right this damn thing should really turn some numbers now. i just hope it does. its really come down to me pulling money from where i shouldnt. but i just have to, i can honestly say i havent enjoyed the truck enough yet to just say i had enough.

I will never use KB pistons just from what I have seen and what has hit my wallet they are prone to detonation save your money and buy a good forged piston................... ....... When you break in a flat tappet make sure you dont over crank the motor and rub off assambley lube to get it fired up and do the proper break in.
