Gov-Lock in Non racing apps???
So in my 1500, Im looking for alittle more traction.
I could go with an auburn clutch style or the gov-lock style.
Gov-lock would be a true lock, while clutch would all depend on the condition of the clutches.
Im looking just for some more traction when I need it. Mostly when Im driving slowly up in the mountain around the house. Not rock crawling or anything, just need some improved traction in snow/mud.
Opinions? Thanks guys
I would never recommend a gov-lock in a street/racing condition, but as far as off-road at low speeds, I have no idea.

I had a gov-lok in my old '94 1500. Seemed like it never worked, I swear I could get stuck on wet leaves. They're not supposed to lock up until about 15%??? differential in wheel speed.

really? I was thinking that they locked at a stop (no speed difference) and disengaged at ~15-20mph.
Id love to get a good locker, but $400 for a new one, vs. $150 for a used GM gov-loc or auburn style.

I had a 2000 Z-71 that had this and it broke turning on a flat road with no foot in the pedal. Unless you already own it, I would not waste my money.

Regarless of how it works (or doesn't work), I think that statement sums it all up!

X3.I had one in a BBC 1500.It worked when it felt like it.It'd peg leg, then sometimes catch and throw you into the oncoming lane at will.I thought it was dangerous.Too unpredictable..

I have a gov lock in my s10. I can't say that it didn't work. cause I'm sure that it did. I haven't blew one up yet. But I have seen one that have. Severe abuse like street racin and clutch dropping action will shoot pieces almost gaurentted.
While in the woods with mine the thing I noticed was that it took a bit for it to lock up and work. Once it was locked it was (well) locked.
Space.

hmm. Well it looks like I should just wait out for a clutch style or head to a true locker.
Thanks guys, thats pretty much what I expected. Like I said, I would never use one in racing conditions, but I didnt know about off-road.

Well I ended up picking up an auburn style GM from a 96 Impala. As soon as I find someone that can swap the carrier bearings for me, I'll get it installed.
Thanks yet again guys.
